ABS Orchestra

The summer term's focus for the orchestra has been the music for the class 4 and 5 production of Tin Tin. Next academic year promises an exciting start including some film-music and other favourite theme-tunes!

We're always keen to welcome new members to the school orchestra, so if you play and instrument please get in touch! If you would like to join but don't yet play an instrument, why not consider learning a brass instrument!

Why learn a brass instrument? - ABS student Siddarth Sahay talks about what motivated him to learn the "instrument of heaven"...

"I have had an interest in music since I was a lad with a thumb in my mouth; not that it was an immensely long time ago, but I learnt how to play a new instrument almost every year. I kicked off with a go at the Flute, took up the Congo, and ended up playing a Jazz drum. I have carried on with the flute and neglected the large drum, for obvious reasons.

The trombone was a new instrument for me and I wanted to learn to play it. When I first heard Mr. Adam Woolf play, I was totally convinced that one day I would play like him – incredibly wonderful and marvelously enthralling! The sound of the trombone also entices me, especially the warmth and the tenderness. After all, it is the instrument of Heaven. The pride of playing comes with it.

I consider myself lucky to work with so many different kinds of music contributors. Our orchestra sessions are truly enjoyable, with each of us trying our best to give the utmost of ourselves and present the audience with some fine music. Music is what feelings sound like. It speaks what cannot be expressed in words. You cannot “tell” music, you’ve to hear it yourself."
